Ryan Claytor on Christmas

Ryan Claytor, the associate pastor of my dad’s church, said this of Jesus’ birthday:

There was nothing perfect about that day — except for the birth.

Ryan put this statement into context by highlighting (or lowlighting) Mary’s 80 mile journey by donkey whilst in the last days of pregnancy and the lack of room for a proper hospital stay. Jesus’ birthday plays like a comedy of errors. And yet, Jesus comes into the world to correct the error of the Fall.

Jesus’ birth was the only perfect event that day and it brought about a perfect atonement and put a model of divine perfection on display for the world to see.
